Functional Medicine is a specialized healthcare approach that focuses on uncovering and addressing the underlying causes of diseases and symptoms. Unlike conventional medicine, which often treats symptoms without delving into root causes, Functional Medicine employs a holistic perspective. This approach emphasizes personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual’s genetic makeup, lifestyle factors, and environmental influences.

Here are some ways Functional Medicine supports overall health:

1. Mental Health: Functional Medicine explores the root causes of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and cognitive disorders. By addressing factors like inflammation, hormonal imbalances, and nutritional deficiencies, it aims to improve mental well-being and cognitive function.

2. Detoxification: Functional Medicine approaches detoxification by supporting the body’s natural ability to eliminate toxins. This may involve dietary changes, nutritional supplements, and lifestyle adjustments to enhance liver function and promote overall detoxification processes.

3. Chronic Conditions: Functional Medicine excels in managing chronic conditions such as autoimmune diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, and chronic fatigue syndrome. By identifying and addressing underlying imbalances, it aims to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.

4. Hormone Imbalances: Through comprehensive testing and personalized treatment plans, Functional Medicine addresses hormone imbalances affecting conditions like thyroid disorders, adrenal fatigue, and reproductive health issues.

5. Nutrition and Lifestyle: Emphasizing the role of nutrition and lifestyle factors, Functional Medicine promotes dietary changes, stress management techniques, exercise regimens, and sleep hygiene practices tailored to individual health needs.

6. Comprehensive Testing: Utilizing advanced laboratory testing and diagnostic tools, Functional Medicine

practitioners uncover intricate details about a patient’s health status, allowing for targeted interventions and personalized treatment approaches.

Functional Medicine integrates natural, alternative, and conventional medical modalities to optimize health outcomes. By focusing on the whole person and fostering a proactive approach to healthcare, it empowers individuals to take charge of their well-being and achieve sustainable health improvements.

Your First Visit (Intake & Physical Assessment)

During your first appointment, you will spend some time with discussions regarding your medical history, your current symptoms, and any of your current medical concerns. Better understanding your situation is key to determining the best way of initializing treatment. If needed, bloodwork and other tests such as imaging may be required. These tests are neccessary because they help us accurately diagnose your condition and with planning follow-up treatment. Any first unknown information that may be referenced such as more tests will be discussed without a second-thought and first initial recommendations for treatment will also be discussed according to your condition and again during follow-up appointment.

Your First Follow-Up Visit (Results, Diagnosis & Treatment Plan)

About two weeks after your first visit, you’ll return to see the same provider. During this follow-up, we’ll go over your test results in detail and explain what they mean for your health. Based on these findings, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. This plan may include natural approaches, alternative therapies like acupuncture, and sometimes conventional treatments such as prescriptions. We’ll discuss the benefits and risks of each option with you. Lifestyle recommendations will also be a key part of your treatment plan because lifestyle plays a crucial role in health. If a referral to a specialist is necessary, we’ll coordinate that for you. Once we’ve agreed on the best course of action, you’ll receive all the information and guidance to begin your treatment.

Subsequent Follow-Up Appointments

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type of treatment you’re undergoing. Natural treatments typically involve office visits every six months or as needed. If you’re on conventional medication, your follow-up schedule will vary based on your progress and medication requirements.

We’re here to support your health journey every step of the way. If adjustments to your treatment plan are needed at any time, we’re flexible and ready to accommodate your needs.
